Challenges/obstacles....and...life changing decisions

As most of you know, last month Jefe and I went to Tucson, AZ. to clear out my house and bring back with us whatever would fit in a 10 ft moving truck. For those of you just happening upon my blog, you can get caught up by following this link and then those that are noted in this post. Slides count down to PHASE 2and so it begins

Now...to update everyone on what happened during and what's happened since then.

First off, everything went well, even better than expected, with the only exception being it was awfully hot, and very tiring....and yes, it was very emotional and stressful.
Sorting through 26-27+ years of possessions is not an easy task, especially when you only have 2-3 days to do it in. I got rid of a lot of "stuff" I'd been hanging onto for all those years, clothes I hadn't worn in who know's how long, clothes I couldn't wear if I wanted to. We just started putting it all out in front of my house....no yard sale signs posted anywhere at all, nor did we go and get special change. We just put it out there.

"If you build it, they will come"....or more like "if you put it out there..."

And come they did....in droves at times, swarms and swarms of folks. It was a regular circus....and I sold and sold stuff hand over fist as fast as I could at times. During the extreme heat of the days, not so many people...but once the sun started going down, they were back. We even had a Hispanic family, who spoke very little English stop at midnight....and they giggled when we said that "yes... we are having a yard sale...even at midnight". I told them "$30.00 and you can have it all.... everything you see"....they talked among themselves a bit, asked if this was true.... we said "Yes"...then a few seconds later I said " Si or no?".....which brought about hysterical laughter from all of us...and a high 5 from Jefe. They didn't have room in their van, but did end up buying a lot of stuff for a little over half what I'd told them. Later on...about 2 am....came this lady walking down the road, looking for "spoons".... she only had 0.58 cents....but also needed a skillet. I gave her the skillet and also anything else she could carry. We had more colorful characters off and on through the night....even cops.... who said the neighbors called, supposedly someone "stole" something from the yard. We didn't care....but thought it was cool that someone else cared.

I managed to purge myself of quite a lot of things, furniture, clothes, knick/knacks....lamps galore. And ya know what...it actually felt good.

We finally got on the road back to Riverside late Sunday night....drove nearly all night off and on because we were both so tired and both working on little sleep, but we made it. Got it all unloaded the next day....and was satisfied with what we accomplished in those few days.
br]Next day, Tuesday the 22 of August...was back to work for both of us, except before I went to work I had a doctor's appointment (finally) and was going to be able to get my heart med's and also get checked over since it had been a very long while since I had health insurance and since I'd been to the doctor.

Well, he gave me all sorts of referrals to other doc's.... 1 for my herniated disc, 1 for "female" stuff, 1 for acid reflux and 1 for a cardiologist....plus.... lab work and x-rays.

Lab results came back very fast....and the doctors office told me he wanted to see me ASAP...so I questioned why/what was wrong...and she said I was "border-line diabetic". I thought, "oh, ok"...border-line ain't so bad, I can fix this.

Friday, Jefe and I went to the doctor and he told me that I am diabetic...and I have to stick my finger every day to see what my glucose count is. 99 is normal....mine was 188. He also has given me more referrals, more lab work and has put me on a diet and several new pills.

So, my challenge is changing my diet, getting more exercise....other than the exercise Jefe gives me... (wink, wink)....and quitting smoking and giving up my addiction to Pepsi...(I drink it morning, noon and night)....which, I think was probably what has caused a great deal of my problem now to begin with. I'm certain that as soon as I wean myself off of it, those numbers will drop down quite a bit. My numbers today... 159.

I don't mind admitting....this scares me a lot because of so many things that diabetes "touches" ...and I already have heart disease, so this makes everything I do from here on out to focus on making the changes I need to make....so I can get healthy and love Jefe for a long, long time.

Any advice from any of you all that deal with it or know about this stuff is very welcome.

Love... Slide

Most diabeetic diets are a lot like the Atkins diet so your weight should drop pretty fast. Diet Pepsi isn't as bad as you think. Good luck with all of it.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

I called my doc as soon as I saw this and he told me the very best treatment you can take for diabetes is to cut tobacco. You're in luck, kid! Gonna start cutting in a few weeks. We'll have those pepsi's pouring out of you and onto the ground across those tobacco patches a six-pack at a time. So, pack you a lil ditty bag of work clothes and catch a greyhound or something smokin' this way. We will put you on the excellerated purging program. You'll be fine in no time. Later

kpb

PS: Since you're a friend, I'll give you a 20% discount on treatments.

Hey Slide! Sorry I haven't kept in touch with you regularly but you might be surprised to know exactly how often I think of you!

I came and found this post and I can't help feeling a little sad.

Anyway, I'll be optimistic. You posted this in Sept so perhaps by now everything's improved.

Hit me back if you can and at least let me know how you're doin.

Take care.
