The more I study our current economic and environmental situation, the more I am convinced we need to make changes. We have become a truly throw away society, if it is broken (except for big ticket items: cars, homes, others) we discard the item and replace it. Gone is the day when we repair TVs, radios and other things. Our vehicles get better mileage than they did in the 70's but there has been little improvement since the 80's, individual vehicles may get better mileage but not the fleet as a whole.
So why does all this matter?
As my have gotten older (college and high school), it is time I start thinking about how the world will be left to my grandchildren, it also helps that my younger brother has 5 grandchildren, I tell my to get done with college first. Also my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary, so time marches on.
So what have I done, my Caravan died and I replaced it with a used Prius. Most of my shopping I carry my own bags and when I am done traveling this summer I plan to start composting. I already have energy star appliances and I am using cfl bulbs in all my lamps where possible. In the coming months I plan to look at solar and window replacements where needed.
So where are you at on the Green Path?
