In My Store Walk

In my store walk the other day, saw an elderly gentleman ( he was perhaps late 80's) in an electric wheel chair. I noticed he was wearing a hat, with Special Forces logo on it. I stopped him, shook his hand, thanked him kindly for his service. He was surprised that I would thank him, until I pointed to my Special Forces pin on my shirt.
We chatted a bit after he realized I was his brother in arms. He had been a staff sergeant in the forces, but I still addressed him as "Sir" (I was given the rank of lieutenant), as he was a elder man to me. I left him cheered up a bit after thanking him again. I hope that his day was brighten some.

As a rule, I generally never make resolutions for New Years.
But, this year is different. With my physical limitations the past year, even with walking 5 miles daily, have put on 40 pounds! YIKES! Most I've ever weighed!
So, have changed my diet to protein rich, low fat n lots of veggies, and cut out carbs! Have to lose weigh, no if's, and's n or's about it!
Made a new rule, have to walk around inside a store 4 times before leaving (the outside isles).

Yesterday was cookie day! Made double batch of peanut butter cookies topped with Hershey's kisses n sugar.....my fav! Also, made double batch of chocolate chip cookies, putting my KitchenAid 6 quart mixer to good use. Yes, I have a heavy duty, home counter-top stand mixer , that can do other chores, too. Can grind meat into hamburger, chop, whip, mix dough n more. It's basically a small version of bakery floor mixers I used, 120 to 200 quart bowls.
Might make cake type sugar cookies today, nice n soft! Also, there's a chocolate cocoa type that is excellent iced. It is nick named "Chocolate Ben's", my Dad got the recipe from a cocoa can when he was a .

Americans Sold Out

Americans are about to be sold out! 55% of polled people disapprove for the new tax "scam"! The rich n corporations get the biggest tax cuts, "to pass it on to more jobs, higher wages.) with permanent tax cuts. The working class "tax cuts" have an 8 year limit.
Never works! They stockpile money in savings, pass stocks n dividends to stock holders! Leaving the working classes out of "loop"!
Hmmm, wonder what the cost was to sell us out, how much the rich paid to buy off the votes (led by Mr. Trump, a very rich man, by all accounts, since he won't release his tax returns!).
So, how does it feel to be sold out, to bare the cost of 1.4 trillion in debt (2.8 trillion after interest). And, 13 million people loose medical care!
Our have to pay that debt!

Just my opinion, all politicians are crooks and don't care about the people they are representing!

ACTUALLY GOT RAIN!

For the first time in months (3 1/2), got real, measurable RAIN!
Yea, I know it's a desert here, but the monsoon was a no-show, so was 2 1/2 inches behind in rain. A nice change to see real rainfall, so don't have to water the plants.

Reminded Memories

Was watching the news last night, a story about a TV station giving a deserving Vet and his family a Xmas surprise. They gave them first $1000 in an earlier gifting. Then, calling them back for an "interview", giving them $6000 more to brighten their holidays. Not finished, a car dealership gave them a new van, as they had lost the use of their old broken car, all tax free.
It reminded me of my return, my memories. No one met me when I returned, was on my own, no hero's welcome because I was a "shadow warrior" from dark times. The only "gift" I received was a visit from my former employer, upset and worried that their "secrets" would be exposed, sending unpleasant, threatening people to "invite" me back to the "agency" or else. Forced to protect myself, I did what was necessary. Then, lived a life of always looking over my shoulder, but never afraid.
No metals, no gifts, no welcoming homecoming......just an empty holiday. No home to go to, abandoned n in foreclosure, empty of life.
I put all that behind me, lifted myself up, put my head into work to forget, forgive my misdeeds, never asking for handouts, nor wanting help, moving on with my life.
I'm uplifted by the change in America's giving nature these days, hoping more Vets get the support I never received. I was forgotten, may that never happen to the service vets again!

Corn

Most of the corn is 6 foot tall now, warm weather speeding it along. Should get some feed corn from it soon. Any would be of benefit, feed for the squirrels come spring. they seemed to have hunkered down for the "fall/winter", maybe because they have thinner coats of fur, and don't get out much. Only saw one this week, one time, n he did a dive for his shed.

For my walks, had been going early AM, sunup at 715, but has gotten too chilly, 40's n 50's. So, now go at noon when it has warmed up to 60's n 70's, much more comfortable! Takes about 2 hours for the 5 miles or so.
Weather still running about 10 degrees warmer than average. Can wear shorts, too!
