Hmmmmmmmm, seems rather lacking in appointments, just laze around the pool after my walks.
Talk to the squirrels (they like that!), check their food. Maybe go to the store n cruise around. Neat Surplus store down the street that serves free coffee, can sit around n chat before I have to get dinner cooking at home.

Had post-surgery checkup with kidney doctor.
Had unbelievable results:
kidney function; 94% That's better than most "healthy" people! Shocked the doctor, as I started out at 54%! And, totally unheard of!
BP: 118/75
All blood tests normal!
Don't have to go back until next year!

Getting Friendly

The squirrels are getting used to me, friendly. Yesterday, they let me fill up their feeder with more raw shelled peanuts, start the grill, and sit and watch them without running off! Then, when I went in, one run up to the sliding glass door, sat up, looking in the glass, like "Hey! Where'd ya go????". Got a kick out of that!
They can't decide which they like better, bananas or the peanuts. Corn is all gone, so they enjoy them, too!

New Entertainment

My new entertainment past few weeks is feeding the animals in the back yard.
Now, I live in Arizona, so even in the city, it's a desert with few real trees. Amazingly enough, 3 squirrels have taken up residence in my neighborhood! I've only seen 1 other squirrel while I have lived here, 32 years!
I put out assorted nuts, seeds and other "squirrel" food for them. But, oddly enough, one day I had an over ripe banana, so put it out. They actually fight over eating the fruit from the peel! They visit almost daily, running along the block fences, probably have a set stops they visit for food.
So cute!

I Have A Secret

I have a secret to tell.........
Found out from a unnamed family source that, because of my past, I scare people. It came about when a part of my tat (which you all see all the time) was exposed in a regular pic. Word got around, asking what it meant, as most tats do, and.............gasp, someone told all. How such a old man could be a monster.
Doesn't bother me, a relief really, good to know why I was suddenly the "black sheep" of the family, a real "monster". No big deal, I enjoy my space, my own time without being bothered or worry.

Recovery/Hospitals

Recovery progressing rather smoothly, no issues.........except hate not being able to drive/go anywhere on my own! Just getting into the truck is a tribulation!
Still on restrictions...no BLT....no bending, lifting, twisting. Have to change positions every 20 minutes. Walk, walk, walk! No restrictions on walking, this week put 53 miles on phone/health meter! Lost 10 pounds!
Hospitals.........a necessary thing for surgery/illnesses. Now, I'm certain they don't intend to make you suffer anymore than your illness makes you feel. But, does the food have to taste like shit, do they have to wake you every 3 or4 hours for pills/vitals or alarms (my IV arm always bends when I sleep!). And, I won't even go into the complications the catheter gives me!

Revised Surgery Procedure

Have revised surgery procedure.
Doctor decided best chance to achieve lowering back pain was to fuse previous levels along with new one. So, he will be removing current hardware, fusing those 3 levels, adding new hardware to L3/4 and fuse it also. L3/4 is total disc failure, so fusion/hardware was necessary.
Recovery time is longer, 3 to 4 months, but should be aided by being smoke/nicotine free, the only good to come all of this, 8 MONTHS!!!

Sitting

Out of my discomforts from my back, sitting is the worst bugaboo I have. Can only sit for short 15 minute spurts. Any long, and the nerve in my leg locks up, shooting electric shocks down my hip, over the top of my hip bone, and down to my ankle.
Sometimes, it stays all day, sometimes just a 1/2 hour.
To say the least, it HURTS LIKE A OF A BITCH! Pain pills only take the edge off of it.

Have a firm date...........for surgery. 07/05/17
Complete failure L3-4 with stenosis nerve path reduction.
So, will be having fragmented disc removal with bone graft fusion/ one set of rubber strips with steel screws. 70% chance of pain reduction, 90% chance of improved mobility (walking, standing), 50% chance of improved sitting.

The "S" word!

Yes, the doctor said the "S" word! (GGGGGGGGGGASP!)
But, to keep the insurance "geeks" happy, "have to" follow their protocols....PT, epidurals, more PT, pain meds (the usual anti-inflammatories were out of bounds because of my kidney failure, stage 2).
So, have tentative schedule for late May/early June..........that's progress, anyway! Besides, new drug rules make doctor "HAVE TO" schedule face to face appointments for refills on opiate pain meds every 2 weeks......which he hates! His PA isn't authorized to refill them, LOL. Seems AZ has a high rate of OD's/addiction, so tougher rules!
