Yes, I'm really still alive!
Back/leg pain still an issue, hopefully will have surgery in May. Doctor required 6 months no smoking for bone fusion, besides he lost a patient that lied about quitting, died of respertory arrest.
Retirement is SOOOOOO GRAND!

Sitting, twisting at the waist, semi-sit ups still a painful issue today. Have to write these blogs standing..........an compromise to ease the pain! Still lots of things on "honey want to do list" that have to wait! Ain't no spring chicken no more, crawling around attic, climbing ladders, putting in veggie garden on hold for now.

Dislike using up blog for health issues.
Anyway, pain specialist gave me a localized shot to ease pain (electric zingers), and Lidocaine patches. Upped nuerotin to 2x times a day for swelling.
Slept better, almost 7 hours, vs only 4 hours. Will get 3rd epidural if pain allows, might postpone if not better.
Still not smoking, a major victory for me, WILL do it this time!!!!!!

Took an Oath

Many years ago, took an oath to serve and protect the Constitution, from threats, both foreign and domestic. (however, the Constitution strictly forbids actions against American citizens by my employer and it's agents). I still hold those core beliefs!
These days, it seems that the laws of these lands are getting trampled on by the current administration, bent to serve an ignorant leader who feels that in his quest of his own ego trip, ignore the Constitution. Are we now at risk of losing ALL our rights??? Just because we have a leader who is on a childish power trip? I do not agree with 99% of his actions, in our good name!
I'm hoping the checks and balances of our government will hold him in check before he totally messes things up!

Epidurals 1 & 2 (with steroids)

1st one went fine, but only lasted 10 days, he just used local pain shots before epidural, not bad at all. Muscle spasms with electric shocks to across low back on hip bone, leg pain, barely can walk.
2nd one was harder, 6 shots pain killer before epidural. Even still, hurt like a mother! He said everything was tight (muscles), so getting in was difficult. He shot disc 3 times, middle one hit a nerve, made my ass jump like crazy and legs literally jumped off the table a foot! That was a real mother, had me sweating bullets, soaked the table! But............today my back hurts, pain went from left leg to right, so much relief yet.
3rd one scheduled for 2/13. If it doesn't work, will have another surgery. Don't mind that as long as back/leg pains go away.
Plus side is haven't smoked in 4 weeks, nor drank alcohol. Getting old SUCKS!!!!

Long ago, in the jungles and other lands, there are whispers in the night of the Cobra. It was known to many, but no one liked to speak of it out loud. Rumors that sent chills down the backs of those affected. Tails of a silent killer, terrifying most, dismissed by the powerful elite, but never the less, most feared it.
Was it a demon, the devil, a myth, a legend, or a ghost, or really a snake? It stuck at will, those who made the dreaded "list", faced a certainty........silent, swift, and deadly death. Never knowing when it would come, but still certain. The uncertainty of not knowing when, where, or how, drove some to hide, trying their best to disappear. Shielding themselves behind think walls, surrounding themselves with battalions of troops, or moving across great distances, but it was pointless. It never stopped once it was on the trail, always moving forward with a purpose, a deadly goal.
Some tried to bribe it to stop the enviable end. They begged, pleaded, worried themselves to near death, but all to no avail. The Cobra always came, unrelenting, unstoppable, a certainty that struck them down.
Were the ghost stories, the rumors, the whispers, the nightmares in the night true? Many found out, without warning, it struck......leading some to choose their own end. The nightmares scaring whatever religious beliefs they had out of them, spreading fear in the heartless. The vengeful Cobra always kept coming towards them, no matter what, unseen, silent, invisible but always deadly.

Life as a Cripple

Life as a cripple sucks. Hurts to just to live. Meds just take the edge off of pain, hate using opiads.
Difficult to sit, walk like am 110 years old.......even with a cane, barely can drive. Not enjoying life right now, almost missed doctor appointment cause it took an hour to dress, electric shocks through my hips n legs. Real danger of losing control of bladder, bowels n legs. Have lost some ability to urinate.

Sobering Developments

Some sobering developments have happened.
Was enjoying semi-retirement, volunteering for the Thanksgiving holiday to the less fortunate. Came down with strep throat, not fun at my age, at all. Stuck in bed for a week, massive antibiotics. Got better, but missed the Holidays.
Was looking forward to moving on after recovering, enjoying full retirement. Doing things that I enjoyed, when I wanted to, living a "normal" life on a "normal" schedule.
But, seems was not meant to be. Had lingering back pain from being stuck in bed for that week, so consulted my doctor when I had a major back spasm with electric shocks. Meds for pain and spasms helped, but difficulty in walking did not improve. Sitting was unbearable.
Now, as you may recall, I've enjoyed the last 10 years, relatively pain free, after recovering from neck fusion, 5 lower back disc herniations repaired. So, know the drill n trials they cause.
Went for an MRI last week, got totally blind-sided by the report. Have major disc degeneration disease, affecting 7 levels, some herniations touching the spinal cord, causing the electric shocks to my low back.
Have to return to my orthopedic surgeon to see of any repairs can be made, or treatments will be effective. So.....................life is on hold again. It is difficult for me to spend time sitting at computer, walking or standing semi-OK, and laying in bed, too.
None of this was in my plans for retirement! Have lived a long , full life, sometimes rocky, mostly satisfying. Was looking forward to reaping the rewards of my life.

My spare time now is taken up working at home, doing consulting jobs at my desk. Nice! Have limited them to very few travel dates! 
Home everyday to cook dinner, enjoy the evenings! No stress, steady income. Glad to be able to enjoy life outside of the darkness!

Have found my plans seldom resemble what I had pictured them to be. Maybe I dream too big?
Vacations, date night, or just spending time with my Love rarely, but not always, end up as planned. Did have a blast in Vegas, though! Spontaneity seems to work out best!

I'm still not one much for holidays. So, I've been volunteering, giving comfort, support and spreading some happiness to others.
I plan on doing the best I can to help others less fortunate than me, small things are huge to those that have little hope in their lives. Just a visit often makes their hard lives brighter.
Now, before you paint me as a saint, still a tough cookie, grumpy on the outside........albeit with a softer side. Still drink, smoke (yea, I know  ) and cuss . Just working at being a better person to others!
