A book about the Finnish Winter War. You know about that one - and the amazing Carl Gustaf Mannerheim - but the others here would learn quite a lot about WWII by digging into the subject matter.
Not so sure that a lot of peeps here would care... For us it's interesting though, it's close to home!

I just finished a great book called The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. A great story narrated by a dog who tells of the trials and tribulations.....living with his family.....from puppydom to the moment he realizes "it is his time". It was refreshing to read this story in the eyes and mind of a dog....

What a interesting idea, to write in your blog what you are reding from time to time, i惴 sure you can learn much about people if you know what they are reading.
For me, it愀 going through many parts of literature, with a big focus on Fantasy and Sci-Fi, I love it to read about "What would if"-Storys, on the other side Fantasy is also good to dream and imagine about the storys and characters.
The Book i惴 reading at the moment is a little bit strange, "Also sprach Zarathustra", Friedrich Nietzsche.
I惴 also reading a Battle-Tech roman, "The Way of the Warrior", Loren Coleman, and at second time a really fantasic book, "Der Schwarm", Frank Sch酹zing, from my local library.

P.S. I will apologize for my english, i know it愀 not the best, some time ago since i wrote something in english, i thnk i had to do a little bit more practice, otherwise i forgot it completely to think and write in english.
Don't worry about your English... It's just fine, as long as we can understand each other it doesn't matter!

I have different reading moods, and sometimes it's Fantasy or Sci-Fi... I pretty much don't read "serious" literature anymore. Did that a lot when I was younger, but now days I mostly read for escapism...

I read trough "Also Spracht..." a long time ago, and only remember little snippets here and there.... I had a philosophy period, where I read stuff by such as Plato, Abelard, Machiavelli, More (didn't understand half of Utopia), Descartes, Nietzche, Marx, and Sartre... I gave up after awhile!

I have a friend that's a super fan of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, but I never read anything by him myself... Never seemed like something that would interest me, and politics, well you know my view on that!

Finished The Memoirs of Cleopatra - It had a LOT of pages, 957 of 'em, but it was an easy read! Even though I knew what was going to happen and of course we all know the ending, I really liked it. Margaret George made Cleopatra and her environment so alive to me. Absolutely gonna have to pick up her other historical novels: The Autobiography of Henry VIII, Mary Queen of Scotland & The Isles, Helen of Troy, Mary Called Magdalene...

Now I'm reading something easy and Urban Fantasy... Thomas E Sniegoski's have before mostly written "young fiction", which I have enjoyed... This is his adult debut. He's most know book is "The Fallen"... It was made into an ABC mini series. I still need to get my hands on the last one in that series. Not easy since it's out of print and the used ones are disappearing faster then I can find 'em on the net, and I'm so NOT paying 50 bucks for a paper back (OMFG I just checked Amazon and now someone wants 144 buck for it, WTF?)!

"Stolen" from Monsters and Critics:
The first clue something was seriously amiss in the world came with a routine surveillance job to check on a husband’s fidelity. It turned ugly when the man in question shot his secretary in a hotel room before turning the gun on himself. To make matters worse, the man recognized Remy’s true nature just before pulling the trigger and then inexplicitly, both he and the secretary began showing life signs when they should have been dead. Remy Chandler is not your everyday private investigator, he’s actually the angel Remiel who, after witnessing the massive devastation from the battle that cast Lucifer Morningstar out of heaven, renounced heaven. He hid his true nature and became Remy Chandler, a human with a beloved, aging wife and a devoted dog and now he has serious problems. Israfil, the Angel of Death is missing, his old angelic associates want Remy to locate him and members of the Black Choir are equally determined to scare Remy off the job. With no small amount of guilt, Remy suspects Israfil might have decided to emulate him and try living as a human. Worse, a set of scrolls is missing and the world may be facing an apocalyptic end sooner then anyone could have dreamt. Remy will have to think fast and make some hard choices if he is to avert disaster and the end of the human race.

Remy may be an angel but he has all the endearing qualities of a loving husband, good friend and flawed human. With a dose of self-depreciating humor, Remy makes for a fun character and his dialog with animals is an added delight to be enjoyed by anyone owned by their pet. The quick pace, assorted friends and adversaries in different guises and a decidedly different twist on the apocalypse theme make for an outstanding entry to urban noir genre. Sniegoski’s first adult book is sure to leave readers hoping for more.
