Ishtar
Ishtar Right now in this present moment My mouth dare not frame poetry for you I stall and sway on the abyss of Desire engulfed in vertigo Such velvety longing, belonging and Caressing me, caressing myself - When I'm myself again Blood and my breath mine again Headlong to your open gates I'll bring in full throated voice my song. Off balance knocked spinning the running Fire burns low down amongst embers of intoxication A soft glow in the sinews of my warm flesh In my thoughts a scheme for a superb embrace I bring for you a trinket plucked from clutter of Happy intoxicated future memories Your body toxic with bat-winged sweat beating off my Leather caressment, my lips tasting your seed, and From my care worn face a long slow smile And for you...for you alone a whispered endearment Ishtar- sandstone carved bas relief on gate, Sumeria (pre-Islamic Iraq) 575 BC |

Thank you. If you perhaps tell me what sort of poetry you must enjoy, I can point you towards the closest I may have to it? Or of course I love if you just want to pick and choose at random, or methodically read it all. I am deeply flattered, to be honest. You are a very canny reader, to discern the theme herein. MT I'm not a student of poetry, I should say. I'm just a receptive audience for it. It's hard to say what poetry appeals to me most, but I think maybe the ones that capture a specific moment or emotion, some sense of anticipation of things to come. Both this one and "Inanna" feel that way to me. One of my favorite poems is "The Tuft of Flowers" by Robert Frost, if that tells you anything. I've written exactly two poems in my life. One rhymes and is stuck in my head forever, much to my dismay, and the other one I rewrite a bit every time I find it on a scrap of paper in my piles. So that tells you what kind of poet I am. I'm not one for flattery, and I wouldn't spend my time here if I didn't find it interesting and time well spent. Good night to you, the intriguing Ms MT.
