Dear Mr. Beyond Confession, OK, well, that's it - I guess. I've always been that way, a night owl who particularly enjoys that gray-purple-rose-blue transition in the sky one 'feels' as well as sees at dawn. And, of course I think most writers/philosophers/poets/artists are of a like mind. Ah, and to sleep in my apartment during daylight is no big feat - I have made my bedroom rather into a Moroccan-style cave. Curtains in gold and burgundy-cream. A rather Elizabethan pattern on these heavier drapes, but the combination keeps most light out and that which glows in is of a rosy or golden tint. So, along with dark mahogany wood furnishings, lots of candles, and the rest of the decor, I have a resplendent, albeit small (urban apartment) harem to snuggle into. I love the late night and early morning hours and staying up through the night, sometimes going to sleep after it has become light. I love the moment when I see the sky from turn from dark to indigo, and I love sunrises more than sunsets. I think staying up through the sunrise gives us something of an endorphin kick. We might pay for it later in the day, or the next day afterwards, but I love the rush that comes from staying up all night reading or writing....or making love. The Spanish have a wonderful word--velada--derived from the word for candle, and it refers to that special time in the late night when lovers are awake while everyone else is asleep.
