Echo and Narcissus
Echo and Narcissus What brings one to the other? To the other? The fickle whim of the Gods. Of the Gods. Is it how the curl falls across her forehead? Falls across her forehead? Is it how his eyes slide... across her smooth shoulders to glance aside, hesitating? Across her smooth shoulders to glance aside, hesitating? Is it how she knew his voice... Had been hearing it in her dreams. Had been hearing it in her dreams. And he called Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? She repeated the last word, "You?" Here/Hear She is! She is! She is! His soul embraced... The certainty. The certainty. It shouted: Mine. Mine. Mine. Her soul replied: Yours. Yours. Yours. And no one is ever going to love you more than I do. Love you more than I do. But there - he was. He was, there. But.. Frustrated, because they spoke (but) A different way of speaking. A different way of speaking. So where do we leave it? We leave it. He tried to embrace it, embrace it, but when He touched it it disappeared. Disappeared Dancing on the riverbank, nodding in the sun. Nodding in the sun. A lovely white flower grew. "Narcissus" by Hungarian painter Benczúr Gyula, painted 1881 |

Lovely! As one who has studied the Ancient Greeks and all kinds of Mythology, I find your sight very interseting. There's no doubt I will come back for more. You will find my blog interesting, on Psycho-Astrology in quirky form. Be well...

yOU ARE amaZING!!!!! MT!!!! yOU never cease to do one better!!!!! I don't read poetry.... I don't even really understand it!!!! But you my precious pet are sumthin..... This is better than the time you put me to sleep!!!!! ALL MY DEVOTION!!!!! this place is getting demanding.... have I gone commercial????? You did spend some time promoting action figures and Disney Corporation Theme Parks. Did you get commission? How about the old adage: you put into something what you get out of it. In other ways, if you feel it's too demanding, demand less of it and put less into it. Although, your many adoring fans will be disappointed. Glad you liked the poem. I might tweak it some today. Last night when I wrote it I was fairly exhausted. MT

I'd like to think that one day she can recover herself ... because he totally wasn't worth it! But yes, you're right. This was, believe it or not, a 'request' from another blogger. Yes, a request that I write a poem based on this myth. He's a really odd bird, that other blogger. Do you know "loaddice00?" I'm pretty sure his reference to himself as Narcissus was meant to be at least half-way tongue in cheek. Let's hope! MT

I'd like to think that one day she can recover herself ... because he totally wasn't worth it! Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale Her infinite variety. Other women cloy The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry Where most she satisfies. For vilest things Become themselves in her, that the holy priests Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra
